Pediatric Eye Care Services

Pediatric eye care is specialized eye care focused on diagnosing, treating, and managing children’s vision and eye health problems. At Campus Eye Group, our skilled physicians cater to the unique needs of developing eyes from infancy through adolescence. We aim to help children start maintaining a lifelong healthy vision.

Routine Eye Exams

While many pediatricians briefly check your child’s vision during their annual checkup, these screenings are not a substitute for an eye exam performed by an eye doctor. Children should undergo their first comprehensive eye exam at six months of age to ensure their eyes are properly developing. After this visit, it is recommended that an eye exam should be performed by age 2-3 and then again before they begin school.

Depending on your child’s age, a pediatric eye exam may include a series of tests for visual acuity, lazy eye, eye tracking, convergence, color vision, ocular health, and more. Because vision can impact eye-hand coordination, fine motor skills, and how children interact with the world, ensuring vision health for children is vital.

Strabismus Treatment

Strabismus, also sometimes called lazy eye, is a condition in which one eye is turned in a different direction than the other eye. It is most common in children but can also occur in adults.

Normally, the muscles that control eye movement work together to point both eyes in the same direction. However, in people with strabismus, these muscles have trouble controlling eye movement and cannot keep a normal eye position. This can lead to symptoms such as double vision, closing or covering one eye to focus, headaches, eye strain, and more.

Strabismus can be named based on many factors, such as the way the misaligned eye points, whether it occurs regularly, and whether it happens in one or both eyes. Your ophthalmologist will have your child undergo special eye tests to determine which type of strabismus they have.

There are various treatment options for strabismus, including eyeglasses, contact lenses, prism lenses, eye exercises, mediations, patching, and surgery.

5/5 would recommend for LASIK which I had done here 3 years ago! | live over an hour away in North Jersey and after calling a few places closer to me and getting the runaround with pricing I decided to check out Campus Eye Group. Katya, the LASIK coordinator, had me sold from the first phone call. She was patient, knowledgeable, and laid out the entire process pre and post-procedure. Katya helped me schedule all of the necessary appointments, as well as the procedure, around my schedule. Just 9 days after that first discussion I was walking out of their office with +20/20 vision. Very satisfied!
