Contact Lenses

Tens of millions of people wear contact lenses to correct their vision. Contact lenses are made from a variety of plastics and, when used as directed, are a safe, convenient, and effective alternative to eyeglasses. Contacts are available in hard or soft varieties, with most contact lens wearers in the U.S. choosing soft lenses. Contact lenses can be daily-wear soft lenses, extended-wear lenses, or disposable. TORIC lenses provide a soft-lens option for patients diagnosed with slight to moderate astigmatism.

Customized Contact Lens Fitting

While some patients can’t wear contacts, the majority of people tolerate contact lenses very well. We will skillfully determine your prescription and help you decide what type of contacts are best suited to your eyes and lifestyle needs. Once our doctors have performed their exam and discussed your lifestyle needs, we then give you a pair of trial lenses to confirm the fit, visual acuity, and comfort.

Why Contact Lens Fitting is Necessary

The fitting of contact lenses is a complex process that must consider numerous variables to achieve a proper fit. Among others, these variables include your prescription and the curvature of your cornea.

A well-fitting contact lens provides excellent vision and is both comfortable and durable. However, poorly fitting contacts can cause discomfort and possibly endanger one’s eyesight!

In addition to the examination, contact-lens fittings include:

  • Automated refraction
  • Care instructions
  • Evaluation of the tear film
  • Training insertion and removal of contact lens
  • Trial fitting of contacts
  • Visual acuity test
  • Trial lenses

We will teach you how to insert, remove, and care for your lenses. You will wear the trial lenses home to see if the lenses are right for you. If you decide the lenses aren’t working for you, for whatever reason, we will work with you to find lenses that are just right for you.

How Long Can I Wear My Contacts?

Two main factors that contribute to how long you can wear your lenses, both daily and over the long term, are how well they breathe and how much they like to collect stuff.  Your eyes need oxygen to stay healthy.  Contact lenses are made of different kinds of materials that will allow differing amounts of oxygen to get through.  Depending on your needs, Campus Eye Group will work with you to select the right style and length of time you can wear your contacts.

Insurance Options at Campus Eye Group

While most health insurance will cover all or most of the cost of your standard eye exam, a contact-lens fitting examination is not typically covered by most health insurance plans.

Honestly one of the most thorough eye exams I have ever had. Everyone was extremely friendly, starting with the two front desk women to the eye assistant to the actual doctor. The process was extremely efficient and the doctor clearly verbalized everything that he was doing and my results throughout each step.
