What Can I Expect During a Routine Eye Exam?

We strive to provide the most comfortable, calm, and – dare we say – enjoyable experience during your routine eye exam. We begin by learning everything we can about your prior medical history, including your ocular health history and any current vision issues you may be experiencing. Here are some things you can expect during the exam:

Vision test
Eye muscle test
Visual clarity close-up
Ocular teamwork
Ocular focus
Ocular movement
Refraction test

A routine eye exam usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour. Your eye doctor will answer any questions you have and let you know if you need glasses or contacts, or if further testing or monitoring is needed.

Who Should Have a Medical Eye Exam?

Many people may think that a medical eye exam and a vision screening are the same, but there are significant differences between the two. Insurance plans also treat them differently. At Campus Eye Group, our experienced physicians conduct comprehensive eye exams to promptly and professionally identify and address eye conditions and concerns. A medical eye exam includes tests commonly performed during routine eye exams, as well as:

  • Visual acuity
  • Pupil dilation
  • Eye pressure measurement
  • Slit-lamp exam
  • Retinal examination
  • Visual field test

Because eye conditions and diseases are easier to treat when caught in the early stages, it is important to schedule a medical eye exam if you are experiencing any concerning symptoms. Not only can a medical eye exam detect eye conditions such as refractive errors and dry eye disease, but it can also detect health conditions such as high cholesterol, thyroid disease, and more.

Pediatric Eye Exams at Campus Eye Group

A pediatric eye exam is a comprehensive assessment of a child’s vision and eye health. These exams are important for detecting potential vision problems early, ensuring normal visual development, and addressing issues that could affect learning or daily activities. Depending on your child’s age, medical history, and symptoms, they may undergo the following tests:

Eye teaming
Focusing ability
Refraction testing
Color vision
Depth perception
Visual acuity
Eye alignment & motility
Screening for childhood eye conditions like strabismus and amblyopia

Healthy vision is crucial for children because it plays a significant role in their overall development, learning, and well-being. Our staff are experts at helping children of all ages feel comfortable in our office and ensuring they get the best possible care.
