LASIK Eye Surgery in New Jersey
Also Serving Mercer County and Bucks County LASIK Patients
LASIK laser vision correction surgery at Campus Eye Group is a painless outpatient procedure that gently reshapes the cornea and removes excess tissue utilizing ultraviolet light energy from the Excimer Laser. Most New Jersey patients who suffer from poor vision due to nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and/or astigmatism are good candidates for LASIK eye surgery in New Jersey.
The experienced NJ laser eye surgery specialists at Campus Eye Group have performed thousands of successful LASIK vision correction procedures and offer the safest and most technologically advanced treatment available today, including Custom LASIK. The combination of skill and leading-edge surgical equipment has helped most New Jersey LASIK patients achieve 20/20 vision or better under the care of the distinguished Campus Eye Group physicians.
How Is LASIK Performed?
LASIK performed at our prestigious Campus Eye Group laser center is an outpatient procedure that only takes a few minutes. Patients remain awake during the surgery; however, anesthetic eye drops are provided for maximum comfort.
During the procedure, a device called a microkeratome is used to precisely lift a thin layer of the cornea. This layer, also known as a flap, is then folded back. Next, a cool beam of light is utilized to gently reshape the outer surface of the cornea. The flap is then placed back in its original position to act as a natural bandage and speed up the healing process. Most patients experience improved vision shortly following the procedure. Recovery is relatively easy, requiring only the use of eye drops for about one week after surgery.
The advantages of LASIK are that patients experience little or no postoperative discomfort, wake up with good vision the next morning, and return to work quickly with no need for eyeglasses and/or contacts.
When a light is projected onto your retina, a wavefront that measures your eyes’ visual system is created. The measurements obtained from the wavefront are converted into a waveprint, a representation of your optical system. This system creates a new level of diagnostic information – a unique visual profile of your vision – as personal as a fingerprint.
With these wavefront details and measurements, a Campus Eye Group eye surgeon is able to individualize your laser vision correction procedure. Using the results of the wavefront procedure, the laser can reshape your cornea while eliminating refractive errors.
Our top New Jersey LASIK surgeons seek the very best outcomes and only accept excellent candidates for the LASIK procedure. When you meet with us for your consultation, we will provide a thorough examination and discussion and tell you if LASIK is right for you. At least 20 percent of patients will be advised not to have laser vision correction for various reasons. For example, some patients’ eyes have corneas that are too thin to allow for the creation of a corneal flap.
Alternatives to LASIK
New Jersey patients who are not eligible for LASIK vision correction often undergo other treatments available at Campus Eye Group, including photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and implantable collamer lens (ICL) surgery. PRK is a laser surgery and is similar to LASIK except that no corneal flap is created. Instead, the laser reshapes the surface of the cornea. In ICL surgery, the doctor surgically inserts artificial collamer lenses into the patients’ eyes, thereby correcting their vision errors in a manner similar to the use of contact lenses. A consultation with a Campus Eye Group doctor is the best way to determine which vision correction procedure is right for you.
